Miracle in a tube
Reviewed in India on 4 March 2021
I'm looking for a pregnancy-safe sunscreen and in the last few weeks, I've spent a big bundle on physical sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens, though cheap and effective, are apparently not safe to use during pregnancy. So, I'm forced to stick with mineral/ physical sunscreens. However my search has been pretty disappointing so far. Two of the best physical sunscreens in the Indian market- La shield to Neutrogena sheer zinc, both give me a terrible white cast which makes me look like I applied a clay pack and forgot to wash it off. La S is not as bad as neutrogena but it stills leaves you with a kind of white film on the face. I was so fed up that I was contemplating to go without a sunscreen until I can switch back to chemical sunscreens after pregnancy, but then this little life-saver came along.
It's been only a few days but my sensitive, oily, dehydrated, acne-prone skin has reacted positively to this sunscreen. I can't express enough how much I've come to love this stuff. It ticks all my boxes: Non-greasy. Non-sticky. Sensitive skin-friendly. No white cast. A very mild, almost non-existent fragrance. Budget-friendly. And the biggest of all, it's a mineral sunscreen, which means I don't have to go without a sunscreen after all. It might not be a big deal for many others, but my skin is pretty sun-damaged and sensitive from all the neglect it suffered during my teen years and the twenties, so I make it a point never to go a day without sunscreen now.
While I can't stop gushing about the product itself, I hated the packaging and next time I'll probably buy from a different seller. The tube came in just the grey-white Amazon plastic cover. No carton. No protective packaging. Not even a bubble wrap. I guess I got lucky that the tube didn't leak or burst, but it could have happened. So I'm knocking off a star for lousy packaging. Zero stars for the seller. My four stars are only and only for Lotus for coming up with this little miracle in a tube.
